In January-September, production increased by 5.2% y/y

In September 2025, Polish steel enterprises reduced steel production by 16.2% compared to the previous month, and by 11.3% year-on-year, to 524 thousand tons. Thus, the country ranks 20th in the global ranking of world steel producers WorldSteel.

In January-September, Polish steelmakers produced 5.65 million tons of steel, which is 5.2% more than in the same period of 2024. In the third quarter, the figure reached 1.79 million tons, which is 11.6% less than in the previous quarter and 0.7% more than in the same period of 2024.

The resumption of steel production in Poland since the beginning of the year has been facilitated by the restart of an important enterprise, Huta Częstochowa. Since February 3, the plant has been operating at full capacity after more than a year of downtime. In addition, Cognor recently opened a new rolling line in Siemianowice Śląskie, which has become one of the most modern in Central Europe. Investments in the project amounted to PLN 840 million, and preparation and construction took eight years.

Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 4.5% y/y in September 2025 – to 10.1 million tons, and by 3.7% y/y in January-September – to 94.6 million tons.

In 2024, Poland increased steel production by 10.1% compared to 2023, from 6.4 million tons to 7.1 million tons. The country ranked 25th in the World Steel global ranking of steel-producing countries (71).

The steel industry has moved away from the downward trend that had been ongoing since 2022, in particular:

  • 2020 – 7.86 million tons;
  • 2021 – 8.45 million tons;
  • 2022 – 7.41 million tons;
  • 2023 – 6.43 million tons.

There are six steel enterprises in Poland, including ArcelorMittal Warszawa (capacity of 0.75 million tons of steel per year), Celsa Huta Ostrowiec (0.9 million tons/year), Huta Czestochowa (0.84 million tons/year), CMC Zawiercie (1.7 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza (5 million tons/year), and Ferrostal Labedy Gliwice (0.5 million tons/year).
